EARTHENWARE

Earthenware (low fired pieces) are hand thrown or hand built.  Some pieces are carved and some are decorated with slip colors when the clay is wet.  They are all bisque fired to 1800 F.

The pieces are then painted, glazed and fired a second time to 1888 F.  The firing takes three days from start to finish to get the result which is a beautiful combination of bright colors and amazing textures.

Each piece is different from the other.

RAKU

Raku is an ancient Japanese word signifying pleasure, enjoyment and ease.  Each piece is handcrafted and bisque fired, glazed, and then fired to 1850 F.  They are removed while hot and placed into a reduction chamber containing combustible material.

The smoke produced in the chamber reacts with the materials in the glaze to produce the stunning effects on the finished items.  The pieces are marked with a unique and dramatic crackling effect.  Raku pieces cannot hold water.

STONEWARE AND PORCELAIN

Stoneware and porcelain pieces are handcrafted in a unique way.  Each piece is handthrown or hand built, carved and bisqued to 1800 F.

The bisqued piece is glazed and fired a second time to 2300 F in a gas kiln.  This process takes three days.

Each piece has a distinctive color and texture which is the result of the time making it and is hard to repeat.
